Importance of Meditation
Meditation is fundamental, a foundation to the majority of practitioners, it is a valuable practice for beginners and adepts alike why is this? What makes it fundamental to the practice of Magick?
Well, Meditation quite simply is the stimulation, cultivation, and understanding of consciousness at least at a basic level. This teaches you to become aware of your thoughts, emotions and overall consciousness it is important for any practitioner getting into the path to be Centred, Balanced and understand that they have a lot of subconscious problems to work on from childhood trauma all the way too monkey mind junk thoughts. All of this is necessary to work through in order to have a focused mind that can direct Will and intent as well as tap into the connection to the consciousness and subconsciousness, these are key skills/fundamentals for anyone that wants to actually progress spiritually and magickally.
People often rush towards big elaborate Rituals and invocations and wonder why they have a shit experience or hardly anything happens at all. Its because for the most part, they lack the basic skills and understanding of how to direct there will and intention as well as being Open on an energetic level. So MEDITATE its one of the most important practices.
This is why even experienced practitioners meditate and practice fundamentals even after 5 to 10 years of practice because it helps a great deal and is useful for many things such as better Focus, Concentration, Visualization, astral sight, Divination, intuition, healing mentally/emotionally/energy and much much more the list continues.
What does meditation help you achieve in occult practices?
- It allows you to become intimately familiar with your thoughts in ways that simply cannot be done by “monitoring” what goes in and out of your mind while performing your daily tasks. Consider that, during a lecture, you are not going to absorb information as easily as when you are giving your full attention to the professor and their instruction. You may miss things completely, alternatively, you might catch them only to forget them later in the day. The same goes for understanding your mind, it’s better to give your mind the full attention it deserves as you observe the thoughts that come in and out while you endeavor to “quiet” them.
- Building off of one, mastering this skill will then allow you to distinguish thoughts that are yours (through familiarization) and what I would call “received information”. Being familiar with your own ideas and biases forming the foundation of how you filter your experiences prepares you for communication with the “non-material”.
- When communicating with deities, you will be able to make snap, instantaneous judgments separating your own thoughts from new, foreign information that very gently creeps in. I find that, for most practitioners, this is how they experience “conversation” with the deities they are invoking, the communication is often subtle, yet very different from your own thoughts. Distinguishing which thoughts are yours, and which are theirs, can become muddy when you aren’t familiar with “yourself”.
So i can’t stress enough how important it is to take your time and learn the fundamentals because ultimately they will help you progress faster in the long run!
